Railway Rules: Big news for railway passengers. If you have bought a reserved train ticket from a PRS counter and accidentally forgotten it at home, there is no need to worry. In such cases, Indian Railways might permit you to proceed with your journey if your ticket is officially validated.
How to receive assistance?
If you realize while traveling that you have left your counter ticket at home, a family member or an authorized individual can submit the original ticket to the station master at your departure station. Upon inspection of the ticket, the station master will send an official communication to the next station where railway officials on board will verify your ticket. If everything checks out, you may be allowed to continue your journey in compliance with the regulations.
Exceptions to the rule
– This provision does not extend to passengers with online tickets.
– This service is exclusively for travelers who have purchased a physical ticket from a PRS counter, not applicable to those who have procured e-tickets through the IRCTC website or mobile app as they are electronically validated.
What to do if you misplace your ticket?
If you realize during your journey that you have left your counter ticket behind, promptly take these measures. Firstly, notify the TTE on the train. Then, contact a family member or authorized person to deliver the original ticket to the station master.
Upon verification, the station master will inform the appropriate railway authorities, enabling you to continue your journey as per the established guidelines. This railway regulation offers reassurance to passengers who have legitimately purchased their tickets but inadvertently left them at home.
Under the supervision of the Centre for Railway Information System (CRIS), all the Passenger Reservation Systems (PRS) installed at stations across the country including Gorakhpur are being upgraded.
After the PRS upgrade, 150,000 tickets can be booked from the counters in a minute. Station enquiry counters will be able to provide suggestions to 4 million people. Currently, only 32,000 tickets are booked per minute, and only 400,000 people receive suggestions.This revolutionary change by the Railways will not only speed up ticket booking but also ensure timely chart preparation. More people waiting in line at the counters will be able to get confirmed tickets. Due to the slow pace of PRS, almost all confirmed Tatkal tickets currently go to agents and brokers.
