PUCC Rules: To combat air pollution in Delhi-NCR, the authorities and transportation department have decided to enforce stringent regulations starting from October 1. Henceforth, petrol or diesel will not be dispensed at fuel stations in Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad without a valid Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC). When obtaining a pollution check certificate for your vehicle, it is crucial to avoid the following five common errors to prevent receiving a counterfeit certificate, inaccurate online data entry, and a hefty fine of Rs 10,000.

Mistakes to avoid during pollution check:

1. Getting tested at an unauthorized or fake facility:
– Mistake: Having your PUCC issued at an unofficial or unregistered outlet.
– Correct approach: Always opt for pollution testing centers that are officially accredited and approved by the Transport Department to ensure that your information is correctly updated on the government’s server.

2. Overpaying beyond the official rates:

– Mistake: Paying excessive fees to the center operator due to lack of awareness about the prescribed rates.
– Correct method: The government has established standardized pollution testing charges based on the type of fuel used for various vehicles such as petrol, diesel, and CNG. Only pay the official rate and request a valid computer-generated receipt from the operator.

3. Failing to promptly verify the status on the mParivahan app:

– Mistake: Only accepting the physical certificate without confirming if the data has been uploaded online.
– Correct procedure: Immediately after receiving the certificate, access the mParivahan or eChallan app on your mobile device and input the vehicle number. Verify if the new PUCC is visible online. Failure to update the information in the app may lead to the traffic police deeming it invalid and issuing a penalty.

4. Disregarding the RPM reading during acceleration:

– Mistake: Neglecting to monitor the screen while the testing is in progress.
– Correct practice: When the operator accelerates, the RPM reading is displayed in real-time on the computer screen. It is essential to ensure that the operator accurately records the smoke level by correctly positioning the probe in the exhaust and revving the engine.

5. Concealing the number plate from the live camera:

– Mistake: Parking your vehicle in a manner that obstructs or blurs the license plate from the camera’s view.
– Correct approach: The current pollution testing system is entirely digital and linked to a live webcam. Your vehicle’s license plate must be clearly visible directly in front of the camera. The system will only generate a valid certificate when the camera captures a clear image of the license plate.
