During festivals like Navratri, Dussehra, and Diwali, many people purchase new TVs, refrigerators, ACs, and other electronic appliances for their homes. This time, however, consumers may have to pay more for ACs, TVs, and washing machines. Companies are set to increase air-conditioner prices by 5–8%, while others have decided to hike prices for washing machines, refrigerators, and LED TVs by 3–4%.
Some companies fear that this price hike could negatively impact festive demand. Conversely, others believe the effect on sales will be minimal, as dealers and distributors have already stocked up on inventory purchased at older prices through bookings made in August and September.
Why will prices rise?
Major electronics companies are preparing to surprise customers during the festive season. Indian consumers are facing the brunt of inflation due to rising metal prices, sharp fluctuations in the foreign exchange market, and geopolitical instability in West Asia. Leading home appliance and consumer electronics manufacturers are preparing to raise prices for air conditioners, LED TVs, and washing machines starting October 1. The primary reasons for the increase are the steep rise in costs for key raw materials—such as copper, steel, aluminium, and crude oil products—along with increased transportation expenses.
By how much might prices rise? According to media reports, ACs, TVs, and other home appliances may see prices rise by up to 8%. Air conditioner (AC) prices will see an immediate hike of 5–8%, while several manufacturers are also set to increase the prices of washing machines, refrigerators, and LED TVs by 3–4%.
ACs and TVs May Become Up to 8% Costlier
A report indicates that prices of ACs, TVs, and other home appliances could rise by up to 8% starting October 1, coinciding with the festive season sales. While air conditioner prices will see an immediate hike of 5–8%, several manufacturers are also set to raise prices for washing machines, refrigerators, and LED TVs by 3–4%.
According to PTI, major electronics companies—including Blue Star, Godrej Appliances, Haier, Daikin, and Super Plastronics—have confirmed price hikes ranging from 4% to 10%. Citing sources, the report notes that LG and Bosch Home Comfort have raised AC prices by approximately 5%.
