Post Office Savings Account - The beginning of your digital banking journey
The Department of Posts has launched a new facility for customers holding Post Office Savings Account (POSA). The existing CIF can now be converted into Aadhaar-based e-KYC CIF. The new system is aimed at providing a paperless and digital banking experience to customers. This step is a big leap towards modernizing post office banking.
Aadhaar and Mobile Number - the first condition of e-KYC
The first condition for e-KYC CIF conversion is that the customer's Aadhaar number and mobile number should be linked to the CIF. If these two information are not already linked, customers can update them by applying to the post office. Keep in mind, if an Aadhaar number is linked to more than one CIF, then it will be necessary to make corrections first, only then the process of e-KYC will be completed.
DREAM App - the beginning of the digital process
For the process of e-KYC, the customer has to go to his nearest post office and make a request. After this, the branch officer will enter the customer's information in the DREAM (Digital Rural Enterprise Application for Mobiles) app. The entire process is done digitally through the DREAM app. Go to Branch Post Master (BPM) 'Core Banking Services' and click on the 'Re-KYC' option.
Biometric Authentication - Aadhaar authentication
When the branch officer enters the Aadhaar number, the customer's consent will be taken and then biometric verification will be done. The customer's name, date of birth, gender and address will be fetched from UIDAI's Central Identities Data Repository (CIDR). If the fetched information matches the record, the CIF e-KYC will be converted to CIF. This procedure is completely safe.
CIF Number - Identity will remain intact
The Department of Posts has clarified that only the type of CIF will change after the completion of e-KYC, the customer's old CIF number will remain the same. That is, there will be no change in the identity associated with the account. Customers will not be required to take a new customer number or go through any other process. It is a matter of relief for millions of customers whose CIF number has been running for many years.
Paperless transactions Pay-in-slip is no longer required
After the e-KYC CIF conversion, customers will have great convenience in operating their account on the basis of Aadhaar verification. Pay-in slips will also not be required for transactions up to the specified limit. According to the Department of Posts, there will be no voucher (pay-in slip) for withdrawal of up to ₹5,000 in Aadhaar-authenticated transactions. This is a big step towards paperless banking.
Branch Interoperability - Transactions from any branch in the country
The biggest advantage of this facility is that customers with Aadhaar verification will now be able to make transactions in their account from any post office branch in the country. The Department of Posts has named it 'Branch Post Office Interoperability'. This will also give customers living in another city or area easy access to their account. However, transactions without Aadhaar verification will continue as before.
Formality of Consent Form - e-KYC
The consent of the customer is most important in the e-KYC process. The Department of Posts has given clear instructions that branch officers should explain to the customer about e-KYC consent in the local language. After this, the SB-eKYC-1 consent form and SB-eKYC-AOF account opening form will be taken from the customer. The process is completely transparent and based on the customer's desire. If the customer wishes to
Data Security - Masked Aadhaar
The postal department has taken special care of the privacy of the customers. For e-KYC based transactions, Aadhaar number will be masked (xxxx-xxxxx- _ _) on all forms taken from the customer. If there is an unmasked Aadhaar number on a document, the postmaster will cover the first eight digits with black ink pen. This security measure is to keep the customer's data protected.
The Future of Post Office Banking The dream of Digital India
This new system will make the use of Post Office Savings Account more convenient than ever before. Customers will not have to visit their native post office every time. Aadhaar-based verification will make transactions more secure and the digital process will save time. The Department of Posts believes that this move will provide customers with a better and modern banking experience. Post Office is now becoming a strong pillar of Digital India.
