PMAY-U 2.0: New Housing Scheme Set to Launch Soon, Check How YoI’ll Get Benefit

PMAY-U 2.0: Exciting news for low and middle-income families residing in urban areas! The preparations for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 are in full effect. This initiative will offer eligible families government support to construct, purchase, or rent a home. Take Ramesh, for instance, a resident of a small room in Delhi who lacked a stable home. Thanks to PMAY-U 2.0, he received government aid to build a secure and lasting home for his family. Now, they can live with dignity.

A total of one crore families will benefit from housing assistance.

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 aims to provide housing on a grand scale, with the central government planning a total investment of ₹10 lakh crore, including ₹2.30 lakh crore in government funding. The goal is to offer affordable housing to eligible families in urban settings.

Government support for home building, buying, or renting

PMAY-U 2.0 is structured around four key components: beneficiary-led housing construction, affordable housing partnerships, affordable rental housing, and an interest subsidy scheme. This means that eligible families can build, buy, or rent a home according to their specific needs and qualifications.

Priority for homeless urban families

The scheme is designed to primarily assist urban families who do not possess a permanent residence anywhere in the country. It covers eligible families from economically weaker sections, low-income groups, and middle-income groups. The level of assistance will be determined based on the established guidelines of the scheme.

PMAY-U 2.0 also emphasizes women’s housing rights. The government has stated that a significant number of housing units will be allocated to women under this scheme. This initiative will not only provide families with permanent homes but also enhance women’s ownership of property.

It’s encouraging to share that millions of urban families have already found a permanent place to call home. By February 2026, over 13.61 lakh houses had been approved, showcasing the scheme’s effectiveness. Following that, an additional 2.13 lakh houses were approved in June 2026. By August 2026, the total number of houses approved under PMAY-U and PMAY-U 2.0 surpassed 1.25 crore.

Nationwide expansion of the scheme

The scheme is also being rolled out in Rajasthan. In this state, technical preparations and city-level initiatives are in progress to implement PMAY-U 2.0. Technical teams are being established at both state and city levels to support the scheme’s implementation. This will facilitate the delivery of benefits to eligible beneficiaries and the oversight of housing projects.

Eligibility check is essential for beneficiaries

Before benefiting from the scheme, applicants should gather information regarding their eligibility and the necessary documents. Eligibility will be assessed based on whether the family already possesses a permanent house, their income group, and the regulations of the relevant urban local body. The application and survey process can be conducted through the local body and the official portal of the scheme.
