Upcoming SUVs: India’s compact SUV market is set to witness significant activity over the coming months. If you are planning to buy a new car, you might want to hold off for a bit, as four major players are preparing to launch new or updated SUVs in 2027. Renault, Kia, Mahindra, and Tata are all gearing up to shake up this segment in their own unique ways. While some are introducing new platforms, others are planning complete overhauls of existing models.

Let’s take a closer look at each of these four vehicles. Four major launches are set to take place in India’s compact SUV segment in 2027, featuring new SUVs from Renault, Kia, Mahindra, and Tata. Let us explore the highlights, design, and features of these upcoming vehicles.

Renault Bridger

Renault has been striving to strengthen its SUV lineup in India for some time, and the Renault Bridger is considered a crucial part of this strategy. This new sub-4-meter SUV will slot in between the company’s Kiger and Duster models. Most interestingly, the Bridger will be designed and developed right here in India.

The production model is expected to use the new R-GMP modular platform, enabling petrol, hybrid, and electric powertrain options. The vehicle is expected to feature the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine found in the Kiger, delivering approximately 100 hp. Additionally, 200 mm of ground clearance and around 400 litres of boot space could make it an excellent choice for families. Its launch is expected around Diwali 2027.

Next-Gen Kia Sonet

The Kia Sonet is already among India’s most popular compact SUVs, but the second-generation model aims to take things to the next level. The new Sonet will be built on the company’s K1 architecture, which is considered far more robust than the current platform.

Kia is also addressing a major complaint regarding the current Sonet: rear-seat space. The design will be completely new, and there is speculation about the future arrival of a hybrid variant, although this option might not be available at the initial launch.

Mahindra Vision S

By showcasing the Vision S concept, Mahindra has made it clear that its upcoming compact SUV will feature a rugged, boxy design. This SUV will be based on the company’s new NU_IQ platform, which supports various powertrain options.

Mahindra has not yet confirmed the engine details, but petrol, diesel, hybrid, and electric variants remain possible. Additionally, both FWD and AWD systems could be part of this platform. Some engines are expected to be shared with the XUV 3XO.

Next-Gen Tata Nexon

The Tata Nexon has maintained a strong foothold in the Indian market for quite some time, and its next-generation variant is expected to arrive in 2027. Internally, the project is codenamed ‘Garud’. The most significant change will be in its exterior design, which will look quite distinct from the current model.

Regarding engine options, the existing petrol, turbo-petrol, and diesel units may continue in some form. Upon launch, it will compete against formidable rivals such as the Brezza, Venue, Sonet, XUV 3XO, and Skoda Kylaq.
