
Passport Rules Change From 1st July 2026: The month of June will end after 2 days from now, and the month of July will begin. You know that on the first day of every month, many government rules change. From 1 July 2026, several important financial changes will come into force. These changes could affect taxpayers, credit card users, and passport applicants. These changes directly affect people’s pocketbooks.
In such a situation, if you are planning to travel abroad and considering getting a passport immediately, you should know about passport-related updates beforehand. From July 1, there will be some changes in the passport fee. Also, know how many days an instant passport is issued for, what documents are required, and what its rules are?
What is a Tatkal passport?
The Government of India has launched the Instant Passport Scheme. Under this scheme, your passport is issued within 1 to 3 working days. In many cases, your passport is delayed if the application or documents are incomplete or incorrect. Your instant passport depends on your documents and the process.

Increase in passport fees
You will now have to pay a higher fee than the current fee to get both normal and urgent passports. The Ministry of External Affairs has increased the service fee for normal and urgent passports from July 1, 2026. Now people will have to pay Rs 2,500 instead of Rs 1,500 to get a normal passport. Meanwhile, instead of Rs 3,500, you will have to pay Rs 5,000 for getting an instant passport. The new fee will come into force from July 1.
Passport Revised Fee 2026
Under the revised fee structure, adults will now have to pay Rs 2,500 for a 36-page passport under the Normal scheme and Rs 5,000 under the Tatkal scheme. The revised fee for a 60-page passport is Rs 3,500 for a normal application and Rs 6,000 for an urgent application. In addition, applicants below the age of 18 will have to pay a fee of Rs 1,750 for normal processing of a 36-page passport and Rs 4,250 for urgent processing.
How to apply for a Tatkal passport?
1. Must Visit to the Passport Services Portal.
2. Now, create your account and log in.
3. Select the Apply for a Fresh Passport option.
4. Fill the application form and select the immediate category.
5. Now, upload the required documents.
6. Click the Submit fees online button.
7. Book an appointment at the nearest passport service centre.
8. Complete the biometric process by arriving with the documents on the stipulated date.
