Orunodoi Scheme: The Assam government has decided to present a special gift to the women of the state in advance of Durga Puja. Women residing in the state will gain advantages from the Assam government’s Orunodoi scheme. Through this scheme, women get monthly monetary support. Starting in October, qualifying female recipients will receive monetary assistance totaling Rs 1,500. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma personally announced this news via social media.

Under the government’s Orunodoi scheme designed for women, qualifying women get a monthly monetary support of Rs 1,250. However, the government will include an extra Rs 250 to this sum during October. This move will positively impact 4 million women throughout the state. The government has referred to the extra Rs 250 as a Durga Puja gift.

What is Orunodoi Scheme?

The Orunodoi scheme represents one of the key social welfare initiatives managed by the Assam government. It began on October 2, 2020. The main goal of this scheme is to deliver financial stability to women from economically struggling and underprivileged families in Assam. Through the scheme, money gets transferred straight into bank accounts registered in their names so they can conveniently address their everyday requirements (health products, legumes, sugar, fresh produce and vegetables, and fuel for cooking).

Which women get the benefit of the scheme?

Just one woman per household can benefit from the Orunodoi scheme. Eligible participants include women who are widowed, divorced or separated from their spouses, women experiencing disabilities, and single women aged 45 and above. Regarding earnings, women whose household’s yearly earnings fall under Rs 200,000 qualify.

Which documents are necessary to avail the benefits of the scheme?

Qualifying women are welcome to apply for the Orunodoi scheme. They should furnish their Aadhaar card, ration card, income proof, residence proof, bank account details, passport-sized photograph, contact number, and supporting documents like a widowhood certificate, disability documentation, or divorce certificate.
