New Hyundai Tucson Hybrid: Premium SUV buyers in India are rapidly evolving. A powerful engine alone is no longer sufficient; superior mileage, modern features, and a comfortable cabin have become equally important. Against this backdrop, the new Hyundai Tucson appears to be a compelling proposition. The company has unveiled the fifth-generation Tucson in South Korea, featuring significant updates across its design, cabin, and powertrain.
Although Hyundai has not yet confirmed its launch in India, the SUV’s hybrid powertrain could prove to be its biggest draw if introduced here. The new Hyundai Tucson has emerged as a larger and more modern SUV. If it arrives in India, the hybrid powertrain could position it as a unique option in its segment.
Design
A comparison between the old Tucson and this new model reveals a striking difference. Hyundai has opted for a boxy, upright design this time, giving the vehicle a much more robust and substantial appearance. Hyundai claims a 29 mm increase in second-row headroom, while the rear doors can now open up to 83 degrees.

Cabin
Inside, the new Tucson features a large portrait-oriented touchscreen running Hyundai’s new Pleos infotainment system. It is complemented by a slim digital driver display and a new two-spoke steering wheel. Additional storage space has been created beneath the floating centre console, while features like ambient lighting and dual wireless smartphone charging lend a premium feel to the cabin.
Hybrid Powertrain
While full details regarding the new Tucson’s powertrain have not yet been revealed, the updated 1.6-litre strong hybrid powertrain is likely to be part of its global lineup. Petrol and plug-in hybrid options are also expected to remain available in certain markets.
The prospect of a hybrid engine for India is particularly interesting. A hybrid system can deliver better mileage in city traffic, while a petrol engine offers greater convenience for long-distance journeys. Hyundai has not yet confirmed the engine power, gearbox, battery capacity, or mileage figures for the India-spec Tucson.

Technology and Features
The new-generation Tucson will not be limited to just design and engine updates; it is also expected to feature significant technological upgrades. A large touchscreen, a new connected-car ecosystem, and a completely redesigned cabin give the vehicle a premium look.
Furthermore, looking at Hyundai’s recent SUV lineup, the company has been consistently focusing on Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). However, how far these features make it to the Indian market will depend on which variants Hyundai decides to localise here.
