Nestle: India’s Food Safety and Standards Authority (FSSAI) has taken decisive action against Nestlé, determining that a sample of Nestlé’s “Low Fat Dairy Whitener” is unsafe and fails to meet quality standards based on laboratory testing. The sample was obtained from The Lalit Hotel located in Connaught Place, New Delhi. The hotel has received a notice about this non-compliant product. That said, the hotel/food business operator has the right to challenge the food analyst’s findings.

In response, FSSAI officials have instructed the food business operator to halt sales of this product immediately. Shoppers are also encouraged to stay informed through official announcements and check product details before buying or using potentially affected batches. This move reflects FSSAI’s broader commitment to strengthening food safety checks nationwide.

Nestlé products have faced regulatory scrutiny previously

This isn’t the first instance of a Nestlé product drawing attention from regulators. Recently, FSSAI took action against Nestlé India Ltd. when an infant formula sample failed to meet quality requirements. According to FSSAI, a follow-up formula produced by the company contained insufficient biotin levels following laboratory testing. The FSSAI also identified concerns regarding the promotion of two additional infant formula items: NAN Excella Pro Stage 1 and Lactogen Pro 1.

Maggi noodles faced a ban back in 2015.
Nestlé faced scrutiny from food safety regulator FSSAI in 2015 when its well-known Maggi noodles were prohibited because of suspected elevated lead content and packaging issues, prompting a significant product withdrawal. Following additional testing, Maggi eventually returned to retail shelves.

Instructions for immediate ban on sale of the product

FSSAI has directed the concerned food business operator to immediately stop selling the product found to be unsafe in the investigation. This action was taken under food safety standards. However, available information does not indicate whether the entire batch of this Nestlé product has been banned or its sale nationwide.
