Monsoon Alert: The monsoon is set to withdraw very soon. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), conditions are becoming favourable for the withdrawal of the Southwest Monsoon from parts of West Rajasthan around September 19. However, despite the impending withdrawal, the spell of rain shows no signs of stopping just yet. Weather patterns are shifting again across several states. The Southwest Monsoon is nearing its exit. Along with Delhi, people in Rajasthan, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh are grappling with humid, sultry heat; discomfort is rising despite moderate temperatures.
According to the IMD, heavy rainfall is likely in isolated areas of Haryana, Punjab, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. Additionally, rainy spells are expected to continue in Delhi, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and East Rajasthan. Heavy rain may also occur in parts of the Northeastern states—specifically Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya—as well as in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.
Delhi Weather
According to the IMD, Delhi-NCR may witness scattered rainfall accompanied by strong winds on September 17. Wind speeds are likely to reach 50 to 60 kmph. The maximum temperature in Delhi-NCR on September 17 is expected to be 31°C, with a minimum of 24°C.
Heavy Rain Warning
The IMD has issued an alert for heavy rainfall in isolated areas across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Kerala & Mahe, Konkan & Goa, South Interior Karnataka, West Bengal & Sikkim, and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal.
Thunderstorm Warning
According to the IMD, thunderstorms accompanied by rain are likely in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Jharkhand, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Uttarakhand. Lightning strikes may also accompany the rainfall. Strong winds blowing at speeds of 40 to 50 kmph are likely.
What will the weather be like in the hilly regions?
According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rainfall is expected to occur in areas of Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad on Thursday. Additionally, lightning strikes may occur in some areas. Rain is expected in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand until September 22.
Light to moderate rainfall is likely over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Haryana, and Punjab during the next 24 hours. Light to moderate rain is also expected in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and East Rajasthan. Isolated rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms may occur in some parts of West Rajasthan.
