Mahindra Thar Electric Spotted:- Mahindra’s new Thar Electric has been spotted testing on Indian roads for the first time. This is the same SUV that was previously previewed in the ‘Vision Thar.e’ concept. The test mule reveals a boxy and rugged design, suggesting that the production model will retain several key details from the concept. The SUV will feature a rugged, Thar-inspired design, a 5-door layout, and the new NU_IQ platform, although details regarding the battery and range have not yet been disclosed. Let’s take a closer look at the details.

Mahindra Thar Electric Design

The standout feature of the SUV spotted during testing is its exterior design. At first glance, its shape resembles the current Thar family. Elements such as a flat bonnet, upright windscreen, squared-off wheel arches, and chunky body cladding are clearly visible.

A rear-mounted spare wheel is also evident, linking it to the current Thar. However, this new SUV is expected to feature a 5-door layout. This gives it a more practical overall profile and promises better usability for passengers inside the cabin.

Practical Interior

Beyond the exterior, the interior is also impressive. Details revealed so far indicate the presence of a digital instrument cluster. Large grab handles on both ends of the dashboard further accentuate its rugged character.

While the ‘Vision Thar.e’ concept featured a large portrait-orientated touchscreen, a separate horizontal instrument display, and a chunky centre console, the production model’s cabin appears more conventional by comparison.

NU_IQ Platform

A key highlight of the Thar Electric will be its NU_IQ platform. Mahindra has not developed this architecture exclusively for electric vehicles; according to the company, the NU_IQ platform can accommodate petrol, diesel, hybrid, and pure-electric powertrains. Additionally, the platform is designed to support both FWD and AWD configurations.

Battery and Range

Despite being an electric SUV, details about the battery and range have not yet been revealed. Mahindra has not yet announced the battery capacity, motor output, driving range, or charging specifications.

Some reports suggest it might use the battery technology found in the BE 6 and XEV 9e models. However, it would not be appropriate to consider these as confirmed details without an official announcement from Mahindra.
