LPG: How Can Gas Go Missing Without Breaking the Seal? Know Here

LPG: If you use an LPG cylinder, this information is for you. Ignoring some crucial precautions when buying a cylinder each month could lead to losses. When the cylinder arrives at your home, you probably check the seal. If the seal looks intact, you might think the cylinder hasn’t been tampered with. However, that’s not always true. Even with a properly sealed seal, gas can still be siphoned from the cylinder. Therefore, it’s essential to pay close attention to these important details when purchasing a cylinder.

Can gas be siphoned even if the seal is intact?

Many people may not realize that gas can be extracted from a cylinder without breaking its seal. This is done by inserting a thin pin or needle into the valve from the top of the seal. The pin presses down on the valve’s pressure regulator, allowing gas to escape, which can then be transferred to another empty cylinder. Additionally, the seal on the cylinder is carefully removed and replaced after the gas is depleted, creating the illusion for the customer that the cylinder remains sealed.

Gas can also be lost due to this

At times, gas shortages can occur due to leaks or issues with the cylinder valves. In these cases, the gas may slowly diminish without anyone noticing, and the cylinder can continue to lose gas while stored. To prevent these problems, it’s crucial to be particularly cautious when receiving your delivery.

What to do at the time of delivery

When your cylinder is delivered, you can check a few things to see if gas has been removed from it. It’s advisable to weigh the cylinder upon delivery. A 14.2 litre domestic cylinder should weigh around 14.2 litres of gas. The empty weight of the cylinder is also provided, so you can add these two weights together to find the total. If the weight is lower than expected or the seal isn’t properly fitted, you should refuse the cylinder and inform the delivery person.
