LPG Rules: Starting from October 1, 2026, significant modifications are set to be implemented in the pricing, booking, and subsidy regulations concerning LPG cylinders nationwide. As per the fresh directives issued by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, a biometric e-KYC process is now obligatory to avail a subsidy of Rs 210 on a cylinder at a reduced price. Previously, a minimum interval of 25 days between two cylinder bookings was established on September 7. It is crucial for consumers of Indane, HP Gas, or Bharat Gas to be well-informed about these recent regulations.

Here are the four key changes happening in relation to LPG starting October 1:

1. Mandatory Biometric Aadhaar Authentication:

A recent government mandate requires biometric Aadhaar authentication for accessing government subsidies. Failure to complete the eKYC process will result in the withholding of the government subsidy of Rs 210 per cylinder. Consumers in this situation will need to refill their gas cylinders at market rates. Nevertheless, gas connections will not be terminated, and cylinder deliveries will proceed even without eKYC. Nearly 89.9% of consumers in the country have already undergone this verification process and will not need to repeat it.

2. Revised LPG Cylinder Prices:

Oil companies determine gas cylinder prices on the first day of each month based on global crude oil rates. Consequently, updated prices for domestic and commercial LPG cylinders will be unveiled on October 1. The government also revised the rule on the time gap between two cylinder bookings on September 7. Urban and rural consumers nationwide can now book the next refill only after 25 days from the previous cylinder delivery, a reduction from the previous 45-day limit in rural areas.

3. Preventing Commercial Exploitation and Fake Connections:

The main aim behind implementing biometric e-KYC is to curb the commercial misuse of subsidized domestic cylinders by enterprises like hotels, eateries, and industrial units. This measure will aid in identifying and blocking duplicate connections operating under false pretenses.

4. Checking Your LPG Connection e-KYC Status:

Consumers can verify the status of their connection and eKYC by visiting the official website of their gas provider such as Indane, HP, Bharat Gas, or the government’s official portal MyLPG.in.
