Life Certificate: Big relief for pensioners. Submitting life certificates in November is a critical task for countless retirees nationwide, as failure to do so could lead to a suspension of their pension payments. In the past, elderly individuals encountered challenges like long lines and health issues when visiting banks and government offices. However, the government and financial institutions have now introduced measures to ease the process for seniors. Pensioners can now conveniently submit their life certificates from the comfort of their homes.

To enable this home-based process, the government has introduced various modern conveniences that are user-friendly and secure.

Face Authentication

This method is the simplest for seniors as it does not require any additional biometric equipment. Pensioners only need to download the “AadhaarFaceRD” and “Jeevan Pramaan Face App” from the Google Play Store on their smartphones. After inputting their Aadhaar number, PPO number, and bank account details, they can scan their face using the phone’s front camera. Upon a successful match, the digital life certificate is promptly submitted.

Postman Service

Provided by the India Post Payments Bank (IPPB), this service is perfect for seniors who find it challenging to use a smartphone. Pensioners can request a postman to visit their residence with a simple phone call or app. The postman arrives equipped with a biometric device and completes the certificate submission process after taking a thumbprint, all within a few minutes. A small fee of around Rs 70 is applicable.

Doorstep Banking

Leading public sector banks in the country have collaborated to offer doorstep banking services. Seniors can schedule this service through their bank’s mobile app or a toll-free number. A bank representative will visit their home to finalize the necessary paperwork and life certificate submission.

Video KYC Facility

Several major banks, such as the State Bank of India (SBI) and Punjab National Bank (PNB), now accept life certificates through video calls. Pensioners can access this service on the bank’s website and opt for the “Video Life Certificate” feature. During a video call, a bank official verifies the senior citizen’s identity by reviewing their Aadhaar card.

With the introduction of these digital and home-based services, elderly individuals who are unwell or vulnerable no longer have to venture outside. This government initiative is designed to streamline processes for senior citizens and ensure effortless access to their pension benefits.
