Kia India has released another teaser ahead of the Sorento launch, which is set for September 4. Earlier teasers made it clear that Kia is launching its first strong hybrid SUV in India, but this time the company has gone a step further and officially confirmed all-wheel drive (AWD).

In the global market, Sorento Hybrid is available in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive variants. But for the Indian audience, Kia has now confirmed that only the more capable AWD version will be offered here. This combination will especially appeal to buyers who want a premium three-row SUV.

Engine and powertrain

With the Sorento, Kia is entering India’s strong-hybrid segment, making this SUV a special model for the company. According to reports, it can be offered with a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol strong hybrid powertrain that will generate about 241 PS of power and 380 Nm of torque. It will be paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Apart from the hybrid version, Kia may also offer a familiar 2.2-litre diesel engine which may be sourced from the Carnival. This engine generates 193 PS of power and 441 Nm of torque and will be mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

Recently revealed spy shots have also revealed a lot about the India-spec variant of the Sorento. Second-row captain seats have been seen in these, leading to speculation that this SUV could be offered in both 6-seat and 7-seat layouts.

Apart from this, a curved panoramic display, rotary gear selector and terrain mode selector will also be seen in the cabin. For comfort, ventilated seats will be provided in both the front and second row, while a Bose premium audio system will also be available for music lovers.

Price and launch

Kia Sorento will be assembled in India, which can help keep its price under control. According to initial estimates, its price may be around Rs 40 lakh. This pricing could make it a strong contender in the premium SUV segment, especially for buyers looking for the perfect blend of luxury, technology and performance.
