Indian Railway Group D: Recruitment by railways still remains the highly demanded choice of job seekers in India, as crores of applicants fight vehemently to acquire an employment option. The recent ongoing recruitment through Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) Group D grade has registered a humongous response and shattered previous years’ application reception records. Read on to tell us how the current year railway recruitment became this season’s craze among job aspirants across the nation.
RRB Group D Recruitment Receives Over 1.08 Crore Job Applications
As per the official notification CEN 08/2024 issued by the Railway Recruitment Board, the Group D level recruitment process has seen over 1.08 crore applications. The recruitment process is for filling up 32,438 vacancies in various categories, including Track Maintainer Grade-IV, Pointsman, and Technical Assistant vacancies in Electrical, Mechanical, Signal, and Telecommunication departments. This humongous figure indicates that for every seat, there are more than 300 candidates competing for selection.
Mumbai Leads in Applications Number
Among all the various RRB zones, Mumbai had the maximum number of applicants, with 15.59 lakh candidates applying for Group D posts. Thus, Mumbai is the maximum-interest zone in the nation. Next to Mumbai are other large zones such as Chandigarh with 11.60 lakh applications, Chennai with 11.12 lakh, Secunderabad with 9.60 lakh, and Prayagraj with 8.61 lakh applications, which also had a huge number of applicants.
Applications Through Different Zones
The job boom in the railways wasn’t confined to a select number of cities. Kolkata saw 7.93 lakh applications, Ahmedabad had 6.39 lakh applicants, Bhopal saw 4.51 lakh applicants, and Bilaspur saw 4.32 lakh applications. Such widespread coverage obviously establishes the unprecedented fervor throughout the nation to secure an administrative position in the Indian Railways.
Reason for Booming Competition for Railway Jobs
Railway posts have always been regarded as safe and upper-class posts. The advantages like the security of the job, constant promotions, pension plans, and other benefits make these posts highly attractive to youth. Further, a minimum level of education is required to be considered for Group D posts, which leaves scope for more categories of candidates, thereby leading to tough competition.
Expected Timeline for RRB Group D Recruitment Process
Applicants now eagerly wait to hear more about the exam time table. The practice is generally to declare exam dates and admit cards following scrutiny of applications by Railway Recruitment Boards. It would be expected that the selection process with Computer-Based Tests (CBTs) and Physical Efficiency Tests (PETs) will begin soon after the first phase of verification of applications is completed.
