Complaint Regarding Job Loss: Employees are often dismissed without a valid reason. They may face delays in salary payments or encounter other work-related issues. Previously, filing such complaints required making multiple visits to the Labour Department office. Now, they can complete this process online. The Ministry of Labour and Employment’s ‘Samadhan’ portal allows employees to file complaints from the comfort of their homes. The portal is called the ‘System for Amicable Settlement of Industrial Disputes.’ Its primary objective is to resolve disputes between employees and employers quickly and digitally.
This portal is useful for employees in both the organised and unorganised sectors. Employees of private companies, contract workers, and staff from various other institutions can utilise it. However, it primarily covers establishments under the Chief Labour Commissioner’s jurisdiction. These include railways, banks, mines, airports, major ports, and Central Government public sector undertakings.
What happens after a complaint is filed?
Once a complaint is registered, the matter is forwarded online to the concerned Assistant Labour Commissioner. The Labour Department then issues notices to both the employee and the company, attempting to resolve the dispute through mutual dialogue. If the parties do not reach a settlement, the Conciliation Officer prepares a ‘failure report.’ The case may then be referred to an Industrial Tribunal or Labour Court. The portal tracks the status of this entire process.
How the system has changed
Previously, employees had to visit the office repeatedly to file complaints, check hearing dates, and inquire about the status of their files. Now, an online dashboard provides information ranging from application submission to hearing details and case progress. Digital tracking has simplified case monitoring and increased pressure on officials to act promptly.
How to file a complaint online
To file a complaint, first visit the official ‘Samadhan’ portal and complete the user registration process. After entering details such as your name, mobile number, email, and identity information, you must verify and approve the account using an OTP. Once logged in, select the option to file a new complaint and specify the nature of the issue. Next, provide all relevant details, including your designation, work timings, salary, and company information (such as name and address).
Documents Required
To strengthen the complaint, you can upload documents such as your appointment letter, employee ID card, bank statements, salary-related records, and resignation letter. Upon submitting the form, you will receive a unique reference number. Employees can use this number to track their complaint status online.
