Garib Rath Express Fire Incident – On Saturday morning, the Garib Rath Express (train number 12204) traveling from Amritsar to Saharsa in Bihar was thrown into chaos when flames suddenly erupted. This horrifying incident occurred just half a kilometer from Sirhind railway station in Punjab.
What happened?
Early in the morning, the train, packed with passengers, was heading from Sirhind station toward Ambala when smoke was seen billowing from one of the AC coaches (G-19). Passengers responded quickly and stopped the train. The loco pilot also applied the emergency brakes.
However, by the time the fire brigade arrived, the fire had spread rapidly, completely destroying three coaches. Passengers immediately grabbed their belongings and began jumping off the train in a panic to save their lives.
Relief: All passengers safe!
Thankfully, the passengers were evacuated in time. There have been no reports of casualties in the accident, which is a major relief. Ratan Lal, SHO (Station House Officer) of the Sirhind GRP (Government Railway Police), confirmed that passengers were safely evacuated. However, a female passenger sustained minor injuries and has been hospitalized.
What is the cause of the fire?
Initial investigations indicate a short circuit as the cause of the fire. The Railway Ministry has also confirmed the incident and stated that the fire has been extinguished. An investigation has been ordered.
