Manipur Violence – Violence erupts in Manipur’s Ukhrul, curfew imposed, internet services suspended

Manipur Violence Update: Violence erupted once again in Manipur. Miscreants pelted stones and set fire to several houses in Ukhrul, a hill town. The situation has worsened. Security forces have been deployed to control the situation, but the situation remains dire. In response to the worsening situation, the administration has imposed a curfew in the entire district.

Internet service has been completely suspended to prevent rumors on social media. The perpetrators of the violence have managed to escape. The police have also launched a search operation. Unrest has been raging in Manipur for several days. The situation has been brought under control intermittently, but then returns to normal.

Administrative officials reported that on Tuesday, a group of armed miscreants attacked homes near a hill, firing several rounds, causing panic among the people. When locals resisted, they set several houses on fire.

Fearing panic, villagers fled with essential items to safer areas in the neighboring Kangpokpi district. Several villagers from Tangkhul village are also reported to have left the area. In light of the deteriorating law and order situation, the Home Commissioner of the Manipur government has ordered the temporary suspension of internet services in the entire district for five days, effective immediately.
