Ten people were killed in the mass shooting, and a large number were injured. Following the incident, a stampede ensued as people desperately tried to flee the scene, running along the beach.

The incident occurred during the Jewish festival of Hanukkah. Approximately 2,000 people were already gathered at the location. According to Reuters, the New South Wales Ambulance Service received reports of the incident around 6:45 AM local time. The injured have been taken to hospitals. Media reports, citing ambulance officials, have confirmed the number of injured.
