Delhi Budget: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has unveiled a budget of Rs 1 lakh crore for the fiscal year 2025-26, representing a 31.5 percent increase compared to the previous year’s budget. This marks the first budget presented following the BJP’s victory in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections. In her announcement, CM Rekha Gupta highlighted that the BJP government will concentrate on ten key areas.

This budget is significant as it is the first one introduced by the BJP-led government in Delhi in 26 years, following their success in the recent assembly elections against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

The government’s priorities in this budget include infrastructure development, as well as improvements in water supply, electricity, and roadways. The Chief Minister noted that capital expenditure has been raised to approximately Rs 28,000 crores, a substantial increase from around Rs 15,000 crores last year.

Key announcements from the budget include:

– An allocation of Rs 2,144 crore for the ‘PM Jan Arogya Yojana’ aimed at enhancing healthcare services in Delhi.

– A proposal to allocate Rs 5,100 crore to provide eligible women with Rs 2,500 per month.

– The installation of 50,000 CCTV cameras across Delhi to enhance women’s safety.

– A budget allocation of Rs 1,000 crore for improving connectivity in the Delhi-NCR region.

– An investment of Rs 696 crore for the development of slum areas.

– The establishment of Atal canteens throughout Delhi, with Rs 100 crore earmarked for the creation of 100 such canteens in the city.

– The formation of a ‘Traders Welfare Board’ and the announcement of a ‘Global Investment Summit’ to be held biennially in the city.
