Aadhaar Biometric Update: Free Service for Children Above 15 Years

Categories:

Aadhaar biometric updates have become extremely important for every Indian citizen, especially for children who have reached a certain age. Aadhaar is now required for almost all government schemes, banking services, and official verification processes. Since Aadhaar stores both demographic and biometric data, keeping this information accurate and up to date is essential.

This requirement is even more critical for children. If your child is over 15 years of age and their Aadhaar biometric details have not yet been updated, it is essential to complete this process promptly. The good news is that this update is now complete

UIDAI Rules for Child Aadhaar Biometric Update

Per UIDAI guidelines, Aadhaar cards issued to children under five are created without biometric data. At this stage, fingerprints and iris scans are not collected. The first biometric update is mandatory when a child turns 5.

The second mandatory biometric update is required at the age of 15. By this age, a child’s fingerprints and iris patterns are fully developed, necessitating updates to these details in the Aadhaar database.

Why Aadhaar Biometric Update at 15 Is Mandatory?

At 15 years of age, UIDAI updates the child’s latest photograph, fingerprints, and iris scan. If this biometric update is not completed, Aadhaar-linked services may face disruptions. Issues can arise during KYC verification, banking transactions, school admissions, or while availing government benefits.

To avoid such problems, parents are advised to complete the Aadhaar biometric update between the ages of 15 and 17.

How to Get an Aadhaar Biometric Update?

For a biometric update, parents need to visit the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra. An appointment can be booked online or directly at the centre. Upon arrival at the centre, a token is issued, and Aadhaar verification is conducted.

Once the turn arrives, the child’s photograph, fingerprints, and iris scan are updated at the counter. Upon completion, an acknowledgement receipt is provided for future reference.

Aadhaar Biometric Update Is Now Free

Earlier, a fee of ₹125 was charged for child biometric updates. However, UIDAI has now obliterated this charge. From 1 October 2025, Aadhaar biometric updates for children are free of cost.

This free service will remain available until 30 September 2026, giving parents ample time to complete the mandatory update without any financial burden.
