Hyundai Bayon India: Hyundai has confirmed the name ‘Bayon’ for the Indian market, and multiple sightings of the SUV during testing have already occurred. Reports suggest it could launch around October 2026. The India-bound Bayon will differ significantly from the global model; it will feature a taller, more SUV-like design. Let’s take a look at the full details of this SUV.

Confirmed for India

Hyundai Motor India has officially confirmed that its new SUV will be called ‘Bayon’. The company is positioning it as an “intelligent SUV” and has adopted the “Intelligence ON” theme for its initial campaign. As of now, the company has not disclosed details regarding variants, pricing, or full technical specifications.

According to Hyundai, the Bayon will be unveiled in the coming weeks. While reports indicate a launch around October 2026, a festive season launch is anticipated towards the end of the month.

Positioning

Hyundai already has strong contenders in its SUV portfolio with the Venue and Creta. The new Bayon could fill the gap between them, offering customers an SUV that is larger than the Venue but smaller than the Creta. This segment could be highly advantageous for Hyundai.

Regarding pricing, the starting ex-showroom price is expected to range between ₹8 lakh and ₹15 lakh. If Hyundai offers competitive features and multiple powertrain options within this price range, the Bayon could become a strong asset in the company’s SUV lineup.

Boxy Design

In terms of design, the Bayon features a distinctly boxy silhouette. It is expected to sport a high bonnet, straight body lines, a flat roof, and large wheel arches. The front end is likely to feature slim LED DRLs positioned above separate headlight units. Additionally, a large grille, roof rails, and robust body cladding could give it a more authentic SUV appearance.

Cabin

As for the cabin, the Hyundai Bayon is expected to feature a modern dashboard. Reports suggest it may come with a dual-screen setup, incorporating both the infotainment system and the digital instrument cluster. Its top-end variants may offer features such as a 360-degree camera, connected car technology, wireless smartphone connectivity, wireless charging, and ventilated front seats. If these features make it to the production model, the Bayon could emerge as a highly competitive package in its segment.

Engine

Several reports regarding the Hyundai Bayon’s engine options have surfaced. It is expected to feature a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, likely the same unit used in the Creta.

Additionally, a new 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine is anticipated. Hyundai’s well-known 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine—capable of delivering approximately 120 hp of power and 170 Nm of torque—might also be included. However, details regarding engine and transmission combinations will only be revealed at the time of launch.

CNG Variant

Hyundai is developing CNG models for India, with the Bayon expected to be part of this lineup. Reports suggest the introduction of a factory-fitted CNG variant. If launched, the Bayon would be an excellent option for buyers prioritising higher mileage and lower running costs.
