Redmi A5 4G Smartphone: Xiaomi is preparing to launch its newest budget device in India, named the Redmi A5. Unlike Redmi A4 5G, which it will replace, Redmi A5 will not be a 5G but a 4G device, i.e., less expensive for Indian users. The phone was already certified by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), validating that the launching will soon be happening. In a turn of events, a rebadged variant of the same phone, POCO C71, has also obtained BIS certification, which led to speculations that both phones will launch simultaneously.

Clues towards Global Launch through FCC and EEC Certifications

It is not just in the Indian market that the Redmi A5 will make its mark. The phone has also gained FCC and EEC certifications, which suggest that Xiaomi has plans for a global launch. The global variant could be under the POCO brand, just like the C71 variant. This multi-region strategy is consistent with the company’s aim to dominate the budget segment globally.

Redmi A5 vs Redmi A4 5G Raises the Bar

In order to have an idea of what the Redmi A5 can bring, we can examine the specs of the Redmi A4 5G, which features a 6.88-inch LCD screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, powered by the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 chip. It also features a 50MP primary camera, a 5MP selfie camera, and a 5160mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging. As the A5 will be a 4G phone, it would have to have slightly watered-down specs to keep it within an affordable price range.

What to Expect from Redmi A5 and POCO C71

Redmi A5 chipset has not been announced yet, but rumors indicate that the phone will come with a maximum of 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage, which is excellent for a budget 4G phone.

Because it is not a 5G device, users can expect a simpler price tag, and hence, it will be more appealing to budget consumers. The POCO C71, as a rebranded product, will probably have the same specs and may enter other markets with small design or software modifications.

Final Thoughts: Budget Segment Gets a New Player

While no official launch date has been revealed yet, certifications and leaks suggest that the Redmi A5 could hit the Indian market very soon. With an expected blend of value-for-money specs and wide availability, it could become a strong option in the sub-Rs. 10,000–12,000 category. Keep an eye out because Xiaomi’s next budget phone might be just around the corner.
