WhatsApp: On the most recent Android beta, WhatsApp has begun testing a message translation feature. On-device automatic translation is made possible by this function. End-to-end encryption allows the device to process the translation. Users will need to download a language pack in order to do this. This performance, which has been made available to beta testers, works in chats and channels.

With the most recent beta version of the program for Android handsets, WhatsApp started testing a new message translation feature. A new settings option that allows for smooth, automatic on-device message translation has been discovered by a feature tracker. WhatsApp’s new ‘Translate Message’ function processes messages on the user’s device rather than on the company’s servers because it offers end-to-end encryption (E2EE) for messages. To utilize the translation feature, WhatsApp will require users to choose and download a language pack.

Offline language packs are used by WhatsApp’s message translation feature.

The ‘Translate’ feature is now available to some beta testers who have updated to WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.25.12.25. Every chat has a new toggle in the Chat Lock settings. The platform has been developing this function since July 2024, according to feature tracker WABetaInfo. Both WhatsApp channels and chats can use this capability.

Users will need to activate the Translate Messages toggle in the chat settings of a particular conversation once the capability is made available. A list of languages, currently including Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese (Brazil), Hindi, and Russian, would thereafter be available for customers to choose from.

WhatsApp will download a language pack when you choose a language; this is necessary in order to activate the message translation feature. By processing messages on the user’s device rather than through Meta’s servers, this new message translation capability operates offline.

Users can select to translate individual messages by tapping on the Translate button, or they can activate automated message translation for all WhatsApp chats, according to the feature tracker. Users may manage language packs and turn off the feature, which is off by default, under the app’s settings.

In the past several months, WhatsApp has introduced other on-device language features. The voice note transcription feature of the messaging app, which transcribes incoming audio messages, was previously released. Additionally, the user must download a language pack to their device in order to use this feature, and the business claims that all transcriptions are completed on-device.
