iPhone battery tips: If your pricey iPhone cannot even make it through a whole day on one charge, the issue might not be with the battery but the default features quietly operating in the background. A Reddit poster whose iPhone 15 was suffering from battery loss received some valuable input from fellow users on ways to minimize the drain that can make a big difference. These tricks apply to both new and old iPhone devices. Let’s check out the 4 crucial settings you should switch off now.

Turn off Transfer to HomePod

One of the lesser-known battery-sapping features is “Transfer to HomePod.” The feature is intended for Apple smart speaker users who have the HomePod, so the iPhone can swap and detect when carried near. But the iPhone continually employs specific sensors to continuously search for a HomePod even when you are not actively using your phone. That constant background work slowly sucks down your battery.

To prevent this, go to

Settings > General > AirPlay & Handoff > Transfer to HomePod and switch it off.

Turn Off Continuity Camera

The Continuity Camera feature lets your iPhone act as a webcam for your Mac. Though helpful to professionals, it’s used by most users very infrequently. If you leave it on, the iPhone always scans for surrounding Mac signals even in the background, thus consuming unnecessary power.

Disabling it should be done if your use is not active. Go to

Settings > General > AirPlay & Handoff > Continuity Camera and turn it off to save battery life.

Turn Off HandOff if You Use Only iPhone

HandOff is another Apple feature that allows you to pick up where you left off on an Apple device, such as copying something on your iPhone and pasting it on your Mac. But if you have only one Apple device (such as just an iPhone), the feature is of no use and only wastes the battery.

To conserve power, navigate to

Settings > General > AirPlay & Handoff and switch off the HandOff toggle. This will decrease unnecessary device scanning and also prolong battery life.

Disable AirPlay Receiver

The AirPlay Receiver option enables your iPhone to stream content to devices such as the Apple Vision Pro. But as this headset is very costly and not owned by most people, this feature is not required. Having it turned on means your phone is ready to pair with an unconnected device all the time, which drains its battery.

To turn it off, go to

Settings > General > AirPlay & Handoff > AirPlay Receiver and switch it off.

Final Words

Implementing these minor adjustments to your iPhone’s settings has the potential to bring about significant changes to battery life. By turning off features that you don’t use actively, your phone will not only last longer during the day but also reduce background load. Try them out and have more screen time with fewer charging interruptions.
