Huawei MateBook Fold review: The MateBook Fold Ultimate from Huawei is a thin, powerful, and alternative to standard notebooks. It features an 18-inch foldable touchscreen and runs HarmonyOS instead of Windows.
Huawei released its first foldable laptop, joining the likes of Lenovo, HP, and Asus. The folding laptop, known as the Huawei MateBook Fold Ultimate, has an 18-inch screen and is Windows-free. What does it run on, then? Huawei’s proprietary HarmonyOS 5 powers it. And what is the price? About Rs 2,85,000 is the starting price.
The MateBook Fold Ultimate will go on sale in China on June 6 and is currently available for pre-order. The device’s availability in India is currently unknown. It is unlikely that it will be made available at all. For background, there are two models of the Huawei foldable laptop that were introduced in China. It costs CNY 24,000 (about Rs 2,85,000) for the 32GB RAM and 1TB storage variant and CNY 27,000 (around Rs 3,20,000) for the 32GB RAM and 2TB storage model.

The MateBook Fold Ultimate is marketed as being small, even with its huge 18-inch screen. It weighs only 1.16 kg, making it portable and lightweight. When closed, it measures just 14.9 mm. Its ingenious design, that includes an ultra-thin printed circuit board (PCB) and a three-layer aluminum structure, makes it even thinner when opened (only 7.3mm).
There are many uses for the MateBook Fold Ultimate. It has the sensation of a conventional laptop since it can open up to 90 degrees to reveal a virtual keyboard. When you fully open it, a gorgeous 18-inch OLED display that can be used in both vertical and horizontal orientations is revealed. Also, it has an integrated kickstand for hands-free operation.
One of the things to do is the OLED LTPO panel. It provides a 4:3 aspect ratio with a resolution of 3296 x 2472 when fully unfolded, and a 3:2 ratio with a resolution of 2472 x 1648 when folded into laptop mode. The screen has a brightness of 1600 nits, 1440 Hz PWM dimming for eye comfort, and carbon fiber support and a non-Newtonian fluid layer to add longevity. the company Huawei, the panel lasts three times longer than standard OLED screens and uses 30% less electricity.
Huawei MateBook Fold Ultimate: look, ability, and extra features
Huawei has included a wireless, 5mm-thin, aluminum alloy keyboard if you prefer a physical one. It weighs only 290g and has 1.5mm key travel, making the laptop’s overall weight 1.45kg.
The device comes with 1TB and 2TB SSD choices and 32GB of RAM. The chipset that powers the device has not been disclosed by Huawei, but two thin fans and a vapour chamber handle cooling.
For a flexible setup, the Fold Ultimate has two USB-C ports, six speakers, four microphones, and a 74.69Wh battery. Bluetooth 5.2 and dual-band Wi-Fi 6 are examples of connectivity. Three color variants with matching body and wireless keyboard textures are available for the Huawei laptop. The keyboard, carrying cases, cable, and a 140W USB-C charger are included with every device.
