Samsung, Vivo and OnePlus – all three companies have entered the fray with their folding smartphones. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 is very close to launch, Vivo has already introduced its X Fold 5 in China and is going to come to India soon, while the 2025 edition of OnePlus Open is slowly making headlines. Now the question arises, which of these phones is the right value for money and which is just a show-off player? Let’s now compete the three face to face.
Z Fold 7 vs X Fold 5 vs Open: Processor
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is going to be launched this time with Snapdragon 8 Elite processor which is considered to be the most high-end chipset till date. This processor is not only perfect for gaming, but will also run AI features brilliantly. On the other hand, the Vivo X Fold 5 runs on Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 – which is quite powerful but may lag behind the Elite version. There is no complete information about OnePlus Open 2025 at the moment, but it is believed that it will come with either 8 Elite or a newer processor, due to which its performance can be comparable to the other two.
Z Fold 7 vs X Fold 5 vs Open: Display
The biggest feature of the Samsung Z Fold 7 is said to be its ultra-slim design, which can make it the thinnest foldable ever. It can have a main display of about 8 to 8.2 inches, which will come with AMOLED 120Hz and will also be quite bright and durable. On the other hand, Vivo X Fold 5 comes with an 8.03-inch LTPO AMOLED display that gives a peak brightness of 4500 nits – meaning everything will be clear even in sunlight. It also has a 6.53-inch outer display which looks very responsive and premium. OnePlus Open 2 will also have an inner display of around 8 inches and an outer screen of 6.3-6.4 inches, which will have high refresh rate and LTPO technology. Talking about the display, all three are strong, but Vivo’s brightness and Samsung’s slimness make it a little special.
Sharp in camera performance?
The most talked about 200MP main camera sensor in Samsung Z Fold 7, which can be as powerful as Galaxy S25 Ultra. It will also have OIS along with telephoto and ultrawide lens, which will maintain clarity in both photos and videos. Vivo X Fold 5 is also not far behind – it has a 50+50+50MP triple camera setup with ZEISS partnership, which also includes a periscope lens with 3x zoom. Dual 20MP front cameras are also provided on top. On the other hand, OnePlus Open 2025 is expected to have Sony LYTIA sensor with Hasselblad tuning, which can make the photo quality pro-level.
Long support in battery and charging?
Here Vivo X Fold 5 seems to be at the forefront, as it has a 6000mAh Silicon-anode battery, which is bigger than other foldables. Along with this, 80W fast charging and 40W wireless charging are available – that is, there is no tension about the battery. Samsung Z Fold 7 is expected to have around 4400mAh battery, which is a bit small, but the new processor and software can manage it. OnePlus Open 2 is expected to have 5000 to 5500mAh battery and 80W or faster charging.
Software Experience and AI features
Samsung Z Fold 7 will come with One UI 8 on Android 15, which will have special tools for multitasking, DeX support and AI features like “Audio Eraser” that will make everyday tasks easier. Vivo X Fold 5 has OriginOS 5 which includes productivity tools like “AI Smart Office” and “Origin Workbench”. On the other hand, OnePlus keeps its OxygenOS very clean and speedy, which has features like “Open Canvas”. If you like fast, no-nonsense UI then OnePlus can be for you.
Launch and price in India?
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is going to be launched in India on 9 July 2025 at the Galaxy Unpacked event and its pre-booking has started. The teaser of the launch of Vivo X Fold 5 in India has been seen on Flipkart, meaning it is going to come to India very soon. Talking about OnePlus Open 2025, its launch date is not fixed, but it is expected to come by the end of the year. In terms of price, Samsung’s Fold 7 can be the most expensive, Vivo can be a little cheaper and OnePlus can come in the middle or at aggressive pricing.
Verdict- Who will be right to buy?
If you want absolutely cutting-edge technology, which has a 200MP camera, the thinnest design and mature software – then Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be perfect for you. But if your focus is on battery backup, fast charging and durability, then Vivo X Fold 5 can prove to be more value-for-money. On the other hand, if OnePlus Open 2 comes with aggressive pricing and updated specs, then it can be a balanced option for those who want smart design and clean UI.
