Android 17: Google may be closer to releasing a new first-party desktop mode for Android smartphones and tablets than ever before, based on years of rumors. Due to a recent leak, Android Desktop Mode—a feature that was once expected to debut with Android 16 this year—may instead debut with Android 17. It is rumored to have features akin to those of Motorola Connect and Samsung DeX, allowing users to swiftly switch between a desktop and mobile interface and resize windows.
Android Desktop Mode Launch In a recent livestream on X (previously Twitter), Tipster Mishaal Rahman provided information on the Android Desktop Mode. Users may be able to utilize larger screens on their phones due to the new desktop experience. The Pixel phone may provide a desktop-style interface when it is linked via USB Type-C to an external monitor, such a laptop.
According to reports, the Android Desktop Mode allows you to multitask by resizing and rearranging windows. Also, there might be standard desktop-like functionality like an app management system, a desktop-to-mobile interface transition, and other navigational components.
It was already stated that Android 16 would provide this new desktop experience. Even a new developer option called “Enable desktop experience features” was added in the most recent Android 16 beta update. When enabled, a Pixel running the previously described beta showed the recognizable Android taskbar, three-button navigation access, and more settings. connected to a laptop.
Its publication, though, may be postponed. Rahman claims that Google needs more time to refine the feature’s user interface, thus Android 16 could not see it. Rather, it is expected at present that the feature would launch with Android 17 on the upcoming Pixel phones.
