Google Updates: Google has officially dropped a big bomb on Android users by shutting down security update support for those using Android 12 and Android 12L devices. This action will affect numerous smartphone users still running older versions of their software and could now be exposed to more security threats. Android 12 and 12L Lose Security Support
Google has discontinued releasing monthly security patches for Android 12 and 12L, so any device that still runs on these operating systems will no longer be getting necessary safety features against security risks. These patches are necessary in order to patch up vulnerabilities and protect devices against malware, hacking threats, and other maladies. By doing this, users of older phones could be forced to handle increased exposure to cyberattacks or software glitches.
As per Google’s Android Security Bulletin, the most recent security patch for Android 12 and 12L was made available in February 2025. These are budget and mid-range devices that are usually discontinued update-wise by manufacturers after two or three years. Users of most older Samsung, Xiaomi, Motorola, and OnePlus phones are likely to be affected.

Those who still have Android 12-based devices should immediately check for any software updates available. If your device has an Android 13 or 14 update, apply it as soon as possible. If your device does not receive any updates anymore, switch to a newer model with longer software support.
