FASTag Update:- Big news has emerged for FASTag users. Customers can now easily switch the bank account linked to their FASTag without removing or replacing the sticker on their vehicle. The FASTag sticker will no longer tie you to a single bank! Just as you can port your mobile number to a different operator without changing the SIM card, you can now switch your FASTag bank without tearing off the old sticker. Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari announced this impressive feature, ‘OneTag’, at the ‘Global Fintech Fest 2026’ held in Mumbai.

This technology enables vehicle owners to transfer their existing National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) FASTag from one bank to another. The new system was launched during the Global Fintech Fest 2026 in Mumbai.

Under ‘OneTag’, users can switch banks while retaining their existing physical FASTag sticker, tag ID, and vehicle registration number. This portability feature will be made available through the government’s ‘Rajmargyatra’ mobile application.

What is the ‘OneTag’ system?

OneTag is essentially a portability system developed jointly by the Indian Highways Management Company Limited (promoted by the National Highways Authority of India) and the National Payments Corporation of India. It operates on the existing National Electronic Toll Collection network, so there is no need to install new machinery or systems at toll plazas.

How to switch your FASTag bank?

Step 1: Open the official NHAI ‘Rajmargyatra’ mobile app and navigate to the FASTag section.

Step 2: Check your eligibility by entering your vehicle and existing FASTag details.

Step 3: Once the system confirms your eligibility, provide your consent to port the bank.

Step 4: Select your new preferred bank. Several banks, including State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, and Airtel Payments Bank, have already joined this initiative. Step 5: The new bank will complete its onboarding and mandatory customer verification process.

Step 6: Once the process is complete, the FASTag will be linked to the new bank.

What happens to the old bank and the balance?

The old bank will settle any pending transactions, refunds, or remaining balances from before the porting process. However, once the switch is complete, the new bank will assume responsibility for all future toll deductions and account management.

Will a new FASTag sticker be required?

This is the most significant change introduced by the OneTag system. Previously, if a customer wanted to switch their FASTag-issuing bank, they had to close their old FASTag account, register afresh with the new bank, and affix a new physical sticker to the vehicle.
