EPFO: Throughout their careers, many employees switch jobs multiple times, often losing track of their previous Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) accounts in the process. In order to access these funds, they must transfer the PF amount from their old account to their new EPF account. This transfer process has proven challenging for numerous EPF subscribers, especially those with multiple Universal Account Numbers (UANs).

To alleviate these challenges, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has introduced a new e-portal. This platform assists members in identifying their old, inactive EPF accounts and transferring or settling the accumulated balance to their active UAN. The Ministry of Labour disclosed this information in a written response to the Lok Sabha on July 27, 2026.

Key points about the EPFO e-portal for old EPF accounts:

1. Lok Sabha MP VK Sreekandan inquired about the possibility of launching an e-portal to aid in identifying/tracking old EPF accounts, linking UANs, and activating them.

2. In response, Minister of State for Labour and Employment Shobha Karandlaje mentioned that EPFO has developed a digital platform for members to securely trace their inactive EPF accounts.

3. The portal utilizes Aadhaar-based verification to confirm the member’s identity. Once authenticated, eligible members can pinpoint their old PF accounts and commence the process of transferring funds to their active UAN, as well as apply for settlements.

4. The government anticipates that this digital method will simplify the linking of old PF balances with active EPF accounts, eliminating the need for cumbersome offline procedures.

Regarding potential future expansions of the EPFO e-portal

1. Sreekandan queried whether the government planned to extend the portal’s reach to members who cannot recall or access the identification details of their old accounts.

2. The minister clarified that there are no current plans to include members who lack recollection of their old account specifics. The government clarified that expanding the portal to encompass members with memory or access issues is not under consideration at this time.

Advantages of the new EPFO portal

The government foresees that this portal will streamline the digital submission of joint declarations for KYC updates, contingent on verification. This will expedite the transparent and hassle-free settlement of old, dormant EPF accounts, reducing manual labor and cutting down on physical paperwork.
