EPFO New Scheme – Special scheme Open for 6 months, find out who can avail the benefits

EPFO New Scheme: If you are a salaried employee, you likely have an EPFO account. EPFO has launched a special scheme—specifically an amnesty scheme valid for six months—for certain provident fund (PF) trusts. This scheme is designed for PF trusts recognised by the Income Tax Department but without a formal exemption order under the EPF Act. It offers institutions or companies managing these PF trusts an opportunity to regularise their status.

Who will benefit?

This initiative is part of the scheme notified on June 29, 2026. The one-time facility is aimed at PF trusts recognised under the Income Tax Act (1961) that lack a formal exemption order under Section 17 of the EPF Act (1952) or Section 143 of the Social Security Code (2020). EPFO has stated that this amnesty is an internal measure available for six months. PF trusts have until December 18, 2026, to submit their applications.

Two categories defined

Eligible entities under this six-month EPFO scheme have been divided into two categories. The first category includes institutions seeking trust regularisation that have already initiated compliance as non-exempted institutions. The second category comprises institutions continuing to operate with an exemption under the Social Security Code (2020).

What is the impact of the new scheme?

This EPFO scheme offers relief to trusts regarding the period from their establishment up to a specified date and facilitates regularisation through official recognition of the trust. Additionally, certain requirements under the Social Security Code, 2020, are being waived.

These include stipulations regarding the minimum number of employees, fund size, and the requirement for a three-year compliance history. Furthermore, assessments related to charges and interest will be withdrawn and waived, provided that the contributions and interest credited to member accounts are equal to or better than the statutory rates.

How to apply?

Eligible institutions must submit an application to the Central Government via the relevant EPFO office through email. Applications can be sent to rc.exemption@epfindia.gov.in. The Ministry has clarified that applicants must have their financial accounts audited by a Chartered Accountant. Additionally, any specific or compliance audit mandated by EPFO officials must be completed within three months of submitting the application.
