EPFO 3.0: A major relief is in the works for salaried employees regarding their Provident Fund (PF). Soon, withdrawing PF funds will no longer be a hassle. The EPFO is upgrading its digital system; under this new ‘EPFO 3.0’ initiative, account holders will be able to withdraw their PF money conveniently via ATMs and UPI. In the future, funds can be withdrawn directly from an ATM to cover expenses such as medical emergencies, children’s education, or weddings. This feature will be an integral part of EPFO 3.0.
This will be particularly beneficial for employees who face sudden financial needs—such as those arising from weddings or educational requirements. Many people keep their PF savings as a safety net for difficult times; now, they will be able to access these funds with greater ease. Please note that while this facility is not yet active, preparations are currently underway.
Withdraw PF funds via ATM and UPI?
Plans are in place to integrate PF accounts with digital payment systems, in collaboration with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). The proposed system will automatically verify the account holder’s identity, the available balance, and their eligibility for withdrawal. Once all necessary criteria are met, employees will be able to withdraw their PF funds using an ATM card. Additionally, options for withdrawal may also be provided through UPI or the official EPFO mobile app.
How much can be withdrawn from an EPF account via UPI?
Subscribers must maintain a minimum balance in their EPF account. For specific needs—such as education, weddings, or housing-related expenses—subscribers may withdraw up to 75% of their accumulated EPF balance.
What conditions apply to such withdrawals?
Limit: A daily withdrawal limit will be set for ATM-based PF withdrawals. This limit will correspond to the maximum amount that can be withdrawn as an ‘advance’ from the PF account.
25% Balance Requirement: According to updated EPFO rules, account holders must retain at least 25% of their total PF balance in their account to ensure future retirement security.
Aadhaar and Mobile Linking: To withdraw funds via ATM or UPI, the account holder’s UAN, Aadhaar card, and bank account must be fully linked, and their e-KYC must be completed.
