EPFO 3.0 Major Update: Withdrawing PF money often brings to mind lengthy forms, hassles with the company’s HR department, and a 15- to 20-day wait. Added to this is the recurring issue of EPFO server outages. However, there is fantastic news for millions of salaried employees.

EPFO is revamping its entire system and is set to launch ‘EPFO 3.0’ soon. This new system will make your PF account as fast and high-tech as net banking or a standard savings account. Expectations are high that this new facility will be rolled out to millions of employees around Diwali.

Claims up to ₹5 Lakh to be Auto-Settled

EPFO is offering relief to employees, specifically regarding advance claims. For emergencies such as illness, marriage, or home purchases, one can claim an advance of up to ₹5 lakh; notably, no official will need to manually review the file. In the new system, the computer will automatically verify your data, ensuring that funds—which previously took a long time to process—are transferred to your bank account in just 3 to 4 days.

Instant Withdrawals via UPI and ATMs

A special facility is being introduced for employees: EPFO 3.0 aims to link PF accounts directly with banking systems and the UPI network. According to reports, during emergencies, you will be able to withdraw funds up to a fixed limit directly via BHIM UPI or ATMs. Crucially, for safety and privacy reasons, this initial step will not require any approval from your company or HR department. The entire process will be paperless.

Cloud-Based System

Currently, EPFO data is distributed across servers in various cities, which frequently causes portal crashes. However, EPFO 3.0 will be entirely cloud-based and centralised. This means the website hanging or crashing will be eliminated once and for all. Ongoing Testing

Testing for this system is currently underway. It was originally scheduled for release in July or August but was delayed due to technical issues. The official launch is now expected by the end of September or around Diwali.
