Recently, the ongoing legal battle between former NCB zonal director Sameer Wankhede and Shah Rukh Khan has taken a new turn. Wankhede filed a defamation suit in the Delhi High Court against Red Chillies Entertainment (Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan’s production house) and Netflix, which the court not only reprimanded but also dismissed.

What is the matter and why was the court’s reprimand issued?
Samir Wankhede had alleged that a web series titled “The Baads of Bollywood” was created to deliberately tarnish his image. He claimed that the series presented a negative image of anti-drug agencies like the NCB, which could erode public trust in the law. He had sought damages of ₹2 crore for this defamation.
However, while hearing the petition, Justice Purushendra Kumar Kaur asked Wankhede’s lawyer, Sandeep Sethi, directly: “How is this petition maintainable in Delhi?”
The court clearly stated that if the case involved defamation occurring in multiple locations, including Delhi, and the greatest damage was caused in Delhi, then they would have heard the case here. On this basis, the court dismissed the petition for now.
