Bollywood’s ‘Dabangg’ Salman Khan is known for his films as well as his superb fitness. But recently on Kapil Sharma’s show, he revealed something that left everyone shocked! Salman revealed that he is suffering from serious neurological diseases like brain aneurysm and AV malformation. Hearing this, everyone started wondering what these diseases are and how dangerous can they be?
Both these diseases are related to the blood vessels of the brain and can be very delicate. Dr. Dhruv Chaturvedi, Neurology Expert and Associate Director at Delhi’s PSRI Hospital, says that often the symptoms of these diseases are not known until a major problem occurs. That is why their timely identification and treatment is very important.
What is brain aneurysm?
Imagine, a balloon-like bulge appears in a vein of the brain! This is called brain aneurysm. It occurs at a weak spot in the blood vessel of the brain, where the vein starts swelling. If this balloon bursts, bleeding can occur in the brain, which is called subarachnoid hemorrhage. This can be fatal and requires immediate treatment. Sometimes it can happen without any warning, so it is also called a “silent killer”.
What is AV Malformation?
AV Malformation i.e. Arteriovenous Malformation is a congenital problem. In this, a strange tangled web is formed between the arteries (which bring blood) and veins (which carry blood) of the brain. This web disturbs the flow of blood and increases the risk of bleeding in the brain. Its symptoms can include headache, seizures, weakness or numbness in the body. Sometimes it is detected when bleeding suddenly starts in the brain.
Recognize the symptoms, stay alert!
These diseases can have some specific symptoms, such as:
Sudden severe headache
Blurred vision
Vomiting
Difficulty in speaking or walking
Numbness in any part of the body
Seizures
If you see any such symptoms, then immediately consult a neurologist without delay. The good thing is that if they are detected in time, then they can be treated with modern methods like endovascular coiling, surgical clipping or radiosurgery.
Prevention is wisdom!
It is very important to keep some things in mind to avoid these diseases:
Regular health checkup: Especially if you have high blood pressure or someone in your family has a history of neurological diseases, then it is very important to get a checkup done. Away from stress: Keep stress away from your life. Avoid addiction: Stay away from smoking and alcohol.
Healthy lifestyle: Adopt a healthy lifestyle.
The example of big stars like Salman Khan teaches us that we should never take our health lightly. With timely diagnosis and proper treatment, we can fight any serious disease. After all, if there is health, there is everything!
