School Closed:- The severe heatwave appears to be wreaking havoc across Uttar Pradesh. With scorching hot winds sweeping through most districts of UP in the afternoon, the government has urged the public to venture out of their homes only if necessary. Prioritising the health and safety of children, the government has also issued an order to keep schools up to Class 12 closed in Varanasi until May 25. This closure order was issued under the directives of District Magistrate Satyendra Kumar.

Turning to the weather in Agra, the city is currently gripped by an intense heatwave. Temperatures in Agra have already soared past the 44°C mark. The Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave alert for Agra, valid for the next 24 hours. In light of the severe heat, the administration has taken a significant decision: acting on the instructions of District Magistrate Manish Bansal, all schools—from Nursery through Class 12—will remain closed on May 19. The administration has explicitly stated that strict action will be taken against any institution failing to comply with this order.

Maximum Temperature: 44.5°C

According to the Meteorological Department, Agra’s maximum temperature on Monday was 44.5°C, 3.6°C above the seasonal normal. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature rose to 27.8°C.

According to the Meteorological Department, Agra ranked as the fourth-hottest city in the state on Monday. By the afternoon, the streets took on a deserted look as residents increasingly confined themselves to their homes to escape the heat.
