Delhi University Update: If you are studying in Delhi University (DU), then a big update is going to be implemented. DU has announced a major change in the evaluation system for its postgraduate courses from the academic year 2025-26. The university administration is implementing this reform under the Post Graduate Curriculum Framework (PGCF) 2025. Its aim is not only to make the evaluation process more transparent and uniform, but also to encourage students to study regularly throughout the year.

Changes in Theory Papers

According to the new rules, now 25 per cent of the total marks of any theory paper will come from internal assessment. This will include class tests, assignments, presentations and attendance.

The new evaluation pattern will apply to PG courses

Actually, if we understand it as an example here, if a paper is of four credits, then its total score will be 160 marks. Out of this, 120 marks will be kept for theory and the remaining 40 marks for tutorials. The theory part will have a final exam of 90 marks and an internal assessment of 30 marks.

The distribution of 30 marks of internal assessment will be as follows:

  • Attendance: 6 marks
  • Class test: 12 marks
  • Assignment and presentation: 12 marks
  • How will attendance marks be given?
  • Now, attendance will also be assessed in a phased manner.
  • About 1.2 marks will be given for 67% attendance,
  • While full 6 marks will be given for 85% or more attendance.

Earlier, most papers at the postgraduate level were of 100 marks, but the new structure will make the distribution of marks and credits more balanced and comprehensive.

Evaluation of tutorials

The new system also places special emphasis on tutorials. Any tutorial will carry a total of 40 marks, out of which 5 marks will be given for attendance only.

In tutorials, students will have the option to participate in a variety of activities, such as:

  • Literature review
  • Book or movie review
  • Group project work
  • Research and presentation
  • Creative writing
  • Group discussion
  • Problem-solving exercises
  • Or other innovative/creative projects

This will give students an opportunity to participate in different academic and creative activities apart from traditional classroom lectures.

New pattern in practical courses

The structure of practical courses has also been changed. Due to this, in a practical course of four credits, 25% marks will be given based on continuous assessment, 50% marks based on the end-term practical examination, and 25% marks based on the viva. The same ratio will be applicable in a practical course of two credits.
