Rajasthan Homestay Registration: If you own a home and are looking for an additional source of income, you can use it as a homestay. You can offer some of the rooms in your house for travellers to stay in; this provides guests with a home-like environment while offering the homeowner an opportunity to earn income.
In Rajasthan, registration for homestays or ‘paying guest’ houses can be completed through ‘e-Mitra’ kiosks or the Tourism Department’s online portal. Alternatively, registration can also be done via the Central Government’s ‘Nidhi’ portal. However, it is essential to review the government’s rules and eligibility criteria before submitting an application.
What are the rules for homestay registration in Rajasthan?
Under the Rajasthan Government’s ‘Homestay Scheme 2026’, you must meet specific conditions to register a property as a homestay. Homeowners can register their residences for this purpose, offering between one and a maximum of eight rooms to tourists. The total number of beds must not exceed 24. If the property is held on a lease, a registered lease agreement with a minimum tenure of three years is required. Each rented room must include an attached bathroom, and the property must be equipped with basic amenities such as water, electricity, and sanitation facilities.
What documents are required for homestay registration?
Several documents are necessary for homestay registration, including proof of property ownership, a lease agreement (if the property is rented), utility bills from the last three months, a photograph and proof of address of the homeowner, and the identification document of a caretaker, among others.
What is the registration fee?
The Rajasthan scheme specifies different registration fees for ‘Silver’ and ‘Gold’ categories. For the Silver category, a registration fee of ₹1,000 is applicable. For the ‘Gold’ category, a registration fee of ₹2,000 must be paid. This amount will not be refunded once the application is accepted. The registration is valid for a period of 2 years.
How to apply for the scheme?
According to this scheme by the Government of Rajasthan, applications will be accepted offline until the online application portal becomes operational. To begin, you must contact your nearest TRC (Tourist Reception Centre) or TIB (Tourist Information Bureau) and obtain ‘Form A’ for ‘Home Stay’ registration. You will then need to fill in the form with details regarding the property owner, the property itself, the number of rooms, beds, etc. Following this step, you must attach the required documents, photographs, and other necessary items.
You will also need to pay the applicable fee—based on whether you are applying for the ‘Silver’ or ‘Gold’ category—via an e-challan. The completed application should be submitted to the relevant tourism office. A registration certificate may be issued a few days after the application is submitted. The property will then be inspected within three months, and the final certificate will be issued once all requirements and regulations have been met.
