Dehradun-Haridwar Highway: Major update on Dehradun-Haridwar Highway. Efforts are being intensified to alleviate traffic congestion on a major national highway and enhance safety during travel. A significant project, valued at Rs 320 crore, is currently in progress to enhance road safety and infrastructure along a 36-kilometer section. The project is scheduled to be completed over the next two years as per the outlined plan. Once finished, it will not only expedite and smoothen travel between the two cities but also notably reduce the likelihood of accidents.
Progress has resumed following a period of rain, with utility relocation work now in full swing. The construction pace had slowed down due to continuous rain, but with improved weather conditions, a strategy has been devised to recommence construction activities vigorously. Presently, the focus is on swiftly relocating utilities such as electricity poles, wires, water pipelines, and other essential government services along the highway. This preparatory work is crucial for boosting the main construction phase once these obstacles are cleared.
The most remarkable feature of this extensive project is the construction of the longest elevated route from Mianwala to Nakraunda. Spanning around 2.25 kilometers, this flyover will be a key element of the seven approved flyovers within the project. By separating local traffic from high-speed highway traffic, this elevated section will alleviate congestion at Mianwala and neighboring intersections, ensuring smooth flow of vehicles.
To address heavy traffic and frequent accidents, flyovers will be erected at seven strategic locations:
– Mianwala-Nakaraunda: Featuring the longest elevated flyover spanning 2.25 kilometers.
– Jakhan Bridge: A flyover near the Dental College.
– Jeevangarh: Two separate flyovers to manage traffic flow.
– Chhidarwala: A flyover to ease congestion at the main market.
– Raiwala: Two flyovers planned for the busy Raiwala area.
In addition to the main carriageway, a 44-kilometer service lane will be constructed on both sides of the highway, enhancing safety for local residents and pedestrians. Two foot overbridges are also slated for construction to ensure safe pedestrian crossings. The finalization of their precise locations is underway.
To enhance safety further, junctions up to Haridwar, like Majri, Dental College, and Raiwala, will be scientifically redesigned to eradicate accident-prone areas. Upon the project’s completion in two years, the Dehradun-Haridwar journey will not only be quicker but will also offer a world-class highway experience adhering to international safety standards.
