Jammu and Kashmir Schools Shut Today: A significant choice has been made throughout Jammu and Kashmir following a tragic accident that has left the region reeling. Following the recent Pahalgam terror attack, all schools in the state will be closed today. The choice affects both government and private schools and is a sign of increasing fears over public security following the tragic event.
Schools and Education Institutions Closed Statewide
Following the Pahalgam terror attack, an emergency meeting was called by the Jammu and Kashmir Private School Association. There was a collective decision to close all government and private schools in the state for the day. Moreover, Jammu University too has suspended academic activities. Exams in progress have been postponed indefinitely, and the association condemned and mourned the barbaric nature of the attack.
26 Killed in Terror Attack
Terrorists opened fire at innocent tourists who were residing at a resort in Pahalgam, according to reports. The heinous act resulted in the confirmed death of 26 people, with 17 others being injured. The brutality has drawn protests across the country because it is claimed that the attackers targeted tourists on religious grounds. Out of the dead, 25 were tourists and one local, with two foreign nationals of Indian origin.
TRF Takes Credit for Attack
The terror group ‘The Resistance Front’ (TRF), which is understood to be a proxy organization of Lashkar-e-Taiba, has taken credit for the attack. The attack has invited immediate action by local authorities. Anantnag police have established a 24/7 emergency help desk and issued helpline numbers to help affected tourists and their families.
Increased Security in Tourist Areas
In wake of the fatal accident, security has also been beefed up in tourist destinations throughout Jammu and Kashmir. More forces have been deployed to maintain visitor safety and avoid any disruption. Frequent checks and patrolling are now being undertaken in popular sites.
Counselling Support for Victims’ Families
A number of NGOs and government departments have also begun counselling sessions with the families that were impacted by the Pahalgam attack. Support centres are being established to provide psychological assistance and legal advice. All the required assistance has been promised by the authorities to the mourning families.
