DA Hike: Good news is here. Nearly 4,000 public health workers in Delhi have received a pre-Diwali gift. The minimum monthly salary of these employees, who work for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), has been increased to Rs 18,000. They will also receive dearness allowance (DA). Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced this decision on Friday. This will cost the government approximately Rs 52 crore.

Around 4,000 employees will now enjoy the advantage of higher pay

Approximately 4,000 workers at the Municipal Corporation of Delhi are set to benefit from this salary increase. Going forward, their compensation will be calculated based on the minimum wage for Level 1 of the Pay Matrix, which stands at Rs 18,000. They’ll also receive dearness allowance (DA) in line with current guidelines. The goal of this initiative is to uphold the principle of equal pay for equal work and offer support to employees who have dedicated years to serving government healthcare in Delhi.

These workers were originally hired as Domestic Breeding Checkers (DBCs) with the responsibility of tracking and managing dengue-carrying mosquitoes throughout Delhi.

Over time, their job title was updated to Multi-Tasking Staff (Public Health). Despite this change in designation, these workers have remained committed to public health duties, including conducting home-based testing and educating communities about disease prevention. According to MCD Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar, these dedicated employees have been serving Delhi’s public health sector for many years.

Salary increases now in employees’ bank accounts

Delhi Mayor Parvesh Wahi shared that the proposal for raising employee salaries and offering dearness allowance was introduced during the previous budget session. It was subsequently forwarded to the Chief Minister for final approval. The mayor confirmed that the enhanced salaries have already been deposited into workers’ bank accounts. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized that this decision honors the hard work of employees who have spent decades supporting Delhi’s public health infrastructure. She stressed that it’s the government’s duty to look after the welfare and quality of life of these dedicated workers.

2,500 sanitation workers recruited before Diwali

The MCD has taken another important step to address staffing issues and improve the city’s sanitation system. The mayor has announced the recruitment of 2,500 sanitation workers before Diwali. The goal is to improve cleanliness on Delhi’s streets, markets, and public spaces.

In fact, during festivals, footfall in markets and public places increases. This also leads to increased complaints about garbage accumulation and lack of timely cleaning. In response, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has directed the MCD to conduct nighttime cleaning drives in major markets and residential areas. She has clearly told officials that negligence in sanitation will not be tolerated and that improvements must be visible on the ground.
