DA Hike: Lakhs of central government employees are awaiting the Dearness Allowance (DA) hike scheduled for July. They anticipate an increase of 2 to 3 per cent. Meanwhile, the government has announced a hike in the Dearness Allowance for CPSE employees. The government has provided a significant benefit to executives and non-unionised supervisors working in CPSEs. The Department of Public Enterprises has released new rates for the Industrial Dearness Allowance (IDA). This decision was taken in view of rising inflation to help mitigate its impact on the employees’ monthly budgets.

Specifically, the Department of Public Enterprises (under the Central Government) has increased the Industrial Dearness Allowance (IDA) and released the new rates. Executives and non-unionised supervisors of Central Government-owned companies will benefit from this DA hike.

Which employees will receive how much Dearness Allowance?

According to the notification from the Department of Public Enterprises, the Dearness Allowance has been increased for CPSE employees covered under the 1987, 1997, 2007, and 2017 pay scales. This hike is based on the All India Consumer Price Index.

How will it impact salaries?

The hike in Dearness Allowance will directly impact employees’ monthly income. For instance, if an employee has a basic salary of ₹50,000 and falls under the 2017 pay scale, they will receive ₹27,850 as Dearness Allowance based on the new IDA rate of 55.7%.

Which companies will benefit?

CPSE stands for Central Public Sector Enterprises. This includes executives and non-unionised staff from government companies in sectors such as energy, oil and gas, infrastructure, coal, power, steel, and financial services. These include ‘Maharatna’ companies like GAIL and BHEL, as well as ‘Navratna’ companies like HAL and MTNL. This hike in the Dearness Allowance comes at a time when central government employees are eagerly awaiting an increase.

The allowance hike for central employees for the July–December period could take place in September or October. It is estimated that the government will raise the allowance by 3 or 4 per cent. If this happens, central employees will receive an allowance of 63 or 64 per cent. Notably, the current Dearness Allowance stands at 60 per cent.
