UIDAI, the Unique Identification Authority of India, is soon bringing a major convenience to Aadhaar cardholders. People will no longer have to stand in long queues at enrolment centres to update their Aadhaar information. UIDAI is preparing to launch a new mobile application, the e-Aadhaar app, by the end of 2025, allowing citizens to update various Aadhaar details from their smartphones.

Updating Aadhaar information from the comfort of your home
UIDAI’s new e-Aadhaar app will provide citizens with a digital platform to update key Aadhaar details without visiting a service centre. This app will allow people to update information such as their date of birth, residence address, and mobile number directly from their mobile phones. Previously, tasks that required visiting an Aadhaar service centre can now be completed in a few clicks. This step is a major effort by UIDAI to make the Aadhaar update process completely digital and easy.
AI and Face ID will protect your identity
UIDAI has strengthened this app not only for convenience but also for security. The e-Aadhaar app will use Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Face ID technology to securely verify users’ identities. This system will help prevent identity theft and fraud. However, biometric updates, such as fingerprint or iris scans, will still require a visit to an enrollment center.
Fewer Visits, More Convenience
According to UIDAI, from November 2025, most demographic updates—such as name, date of birth, address, and mobile number—will be made online. Only biometric updates will require a visit to the center. This will save millions of people time and reduce crowding at centers. UIDAI aims to provide citizens with a “fewer visits, more convenience” experience with this app.
Why is this change necessary?
Until now, changing Aadhaar information has been a paperwork-intensive and time-consuming task for many. This process was particularly difficult for those living in rural and remote areas. UIDAI’s new e-Aadhaar app is an important step towards bridging this gap. It will also strengthen the Digital India mission, allowing people to access government services from the comfort of their homes.
What to know before the launch
UIDAI has indicated that the e-Aadhaar app will be launched by the end of 2025, but the exact date has not yet been announced. While demographic information can be changed through the app, biometric updates (such as fingerprints and iris scans) will require a visit to a center. Once launched, the app will simplify verification by pulling data from government databases such as passports, PAN cards, driving licenses, and ration cards. For now, use the UIDAI’s official website or enrollment center for any Aadhaar-related information.

Important advice for users
UIDAI advises that once the e-Aadhaar app is launched, rely only on its official website or app. Avoid unofficial links or third-party apps. Also, ensure your mobile number is linked to your Aadhaar, as this is mandatory for online updates. Prepare the necessary documents for changing your address or date of birth in advance to avoid delays in the process.
