Every Provident Fund (PF) account holder receives a Universal Account Number (UAN) from the EPFO. This number allows account holders to easily access all their EPF-related information and perform various tasks. Those who are employed understand how crucial the UAN is. However, if an incorrect member ID gets linked to someone’s UAN, it can create significant issues.

Fortunately, you can now easily remove the wrong member ID. The Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) introduced a new feature for its members in a circular released on January 17, 2025. This allows members to unlink any incorrectly associated member ID from their UAN that was linked without their consent.

If you find yourself in this situation, here’s how to unlink the incorrect member ID, as outlined by the EPFO. Just remember, to unlink someone else’s ID from your UAN, your mobile number linked to Aadhaar must be active.

Here’s how to delink another member’s ID from your UAN:

1. Log in to the Unified Members Portal and enter the OTP.
2. Navigate to the View menu and select Service History.
3. Look for the incorrect ID linked to your UAN and click on delink.
4. Confirm by clicking OK.
5. On the next page, choose the reason for delinking.
6. Two consent boxes will pop up; clicking them will send an OTP to your Aadhaar-linked mobile.
7. Enter that OTP, and the delinked ID will no longer appear in your service history.
