There is confusion among the common people about getting caste certificate. Many do not know whether this certificate can be obtained from the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office or whether one has to go to the District Magistrate’s office. To end that confusion, the Alipurduar Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office has issued clear guidelines.
According to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office, caste certificate will be issued directly to the residents of Alipurduar sub-division from this office. However, certain rules and procedures have to be followed to get the certificate. Alipurduar Sub-Divisional Magistrate Debabrata Roy himself has made the common people aware of this issue through social media.
Caste certificate is essential for various competitive exams for jobs or admission to schools and colleges. In the first step, to get this certificate, one has to apply online. Applicants have to fill the application form from the specific portal of the state government.

What to keep?
After completing the online application, a hard copy of the form should be kept. Along with this, the annual income certificate of the guardian of the family, passport size photograph of the applicant and birth certificate should be submitted. The applicant should appear directly at the office of the Alipurduar Sub-Divisional Magistrate with all these documents.

The Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office further informed that hearings regarding the certificate are held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays of the week. In the first half of those days, hearings are held for OBC certificate applicants. In the second half, hearings are held for SC and ST certificate applicants.
If all the documents are correct and the hearing process is completed smoothly, the caste certificate is usually issued within two weeks, the administration said. The administration has requested the applicants not to fall into the trap of any broker or false information and to apply according to the prescribed rules.
