Bihar Election Voting: The Election Commission has announced the dates for the 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections. On Monday, October 6, the Election Commission also announced the dates for by-elections to eight assembly seats in Bihar and seven other states. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar stated that elections for the 243 seats in the Bihar Assembly will be held in two phases. The first phase of voting will take place on November 6 and the second phase on November 11. By-elections to eight assembly seats in Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Telangana, Punjab, Mizoram, and Odisha will also be held on November 11. The results of all elections will be declared on November 14.
Significance of the Bihar Assembly Elections
The 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections could bring significant changes to the state’s politics. The state has a total of 243 assembly seats, of which 38 are reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and 2 for Scheduled Tribes (STs). The current term of the Bihar Legislative Assembly ends on November 22, 2025, after which new representatives will be elected. This time, the Election Commission has decided to use several new technologies and rules for the convenience of voters, ensuring a transparent and smooth voting process.
Identification Cards Required for Voting
The Election Commission has clarified that having an Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC), i.e., Voter ID card, is mandatory for voting. However, if a voter does not have a Voter ID, they can use other valid identification documents. These include passports, driving licenses, photo identity cards for government employees, bank or post office passbooks, PAN cards, Aadhaar cards, MNREGA job cards, health insurance cards issued by the Ministry of Labor, pension documents, and government identity cards for MPs, MLAs, or Legislative Council members. Photo voter slips will not be accepted as identification cards, meaning they cannot be used for voting.

The Election Commission is implementing several new technologies and features this time to ensure a more transparent and smooth voting process. These technologies aim to enhance voter convenience during voting and prevent any malpractice in the voting process. This initiative protects voters’ rights in the democratic process, further enhancing confidence in elections.

By-election Details
In addition, by-elections will be held on November 11th for eight assembly seats in Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Telangana, Punjab, Mizoram, and Odisha. The results of these by-elections will also be declared on November 14th. These by-elections could impact state politics and serve as an important indicator for the upcoming assembly elections.
