You can update the name in Aadhaar Card online. UIDAI has made this process easy. Now you can change the name from home. There is no need to stand in line at the Aadhaar Service Center. You only need some documents and an internet connection.
Documents needed for Aadhaar name change
To change the name, you must upload one valid document approved by UIDAI. This can be passport, voter ID, PAN card, ration card, gazette notification (for name change), or bank passbook/statement with photo.
Easy online process
- Step 1: Go to the official UIDAI website (https://uidai.gov.in).
- Click on “My Aadhaar” and select “Update Aadhaar Online.”
- Step 2: Login with Aadhaar number and OTP. Select “Name Update,” enter the new name, and upload the document.
- Step 3: Check all details and click “Submit.” You will get a URN (Update Request Number) to track the status.
UIDAI says the update takes about 7–10 days. Sometimes it may take longer for verification. You will get an SMS after it is done. A person can update the name online only two times. The name must match the document, and the document copy must be clear. After the update, the new Aadhaar card can be downloaded.
